It’s the end of September! I can’t quite believe that we are here already. There are so many autumn lovers out there, but I am not one of them. September feels like the last chance to cling on to summer. I miss the bright evenings already.
Here are a few things I did this month…
I ran a free workshop
I’ve run a few live workshops now, and really enjoy doing them. In the past I’ve always charged, but thought I would experiment this time with running it for free, and giving people an incentive to book a call in with me. And – I loved doing it this way. It felt so easy to promote, it took some of the pressure off the creation process, and in the end I probably made around the same amount I would have done had I charged for it. I definitely think I will do this again.
If you’d like to hear about any upcoming workshops I host, make sure you sign up to my newsletter.
I kept blogging
And have been really enjoyed it. This month I wrote…
- Reprioritising after a month of Instagram
- Money “manifestation” – A 5 week diary
- 4 things authors can learn from the Sally Rooney marketing campaign
I took a painting class
Agnes of We Are Stardust offered a free watercolour painting class, and I was so excited to take part. I love her paintings so much, she is so talented. So was delighted to see that she was offering this class. I dream of taking one of her nature adventures – hopefully I’ll be able to sign up in the spring time (that’s more my scene, anyway, given the aforementioned dislike of autumn/winter!).
Income
I see a lot of ‘this is how much I made this month, and this is how I made it’ posts online, and LOVE reading them. As much as I love talking to people about money, I am not comfortable sharing my income online! But I can share a bit about where my money is coming from, and where I hope to shift this.
In September, I hit my income goal, which I am chuffed about. 80% came from the short-term contract I’m currently doing in house, 13% came from one-to-one clients, and the remainder came from a mix of affilliate income and digital product sales. I had a few lovely people buy me a Ko-fi this month, which was really nice.
Ultimately, I would really like my time and income to be split a bit more evenly between in-house contracts and other projects. I love being in house, but I’m looking forward to having more time for other projects next month, when my days decrease.
The kids started back at school
I had a wonderful summer with the kids, but I was definitely ready for them to start back! I’m quite sure they’ll be back home with me ‘homeschooling’ before the year is out, so I’m appreciating every day they’re there. They both love it, and I love having quiet day times!
Our kitchen work finished
It’s much cleaner, and uses the space in a MUCH better way. The main reason I did it was that, despite having had work done to the drains and traps in various cupboards, I knew that there were still several access points for rodents to come into the house. I spend a LOT of time in the kitchen, and the occasional clanging behind the cupboards was starting to make me go a bit doolally.
None of the cupboards on the left were sealed internally, so we’ve had many issues since we moved in. It’s been very unpleasant at times. Now everything is closed off and hopefully the only furry creature in the kitchen will be the cat from now on. Clearly, from the photos, I will not be an interiors photographer any time soon, but I am so incredibly happy with how this room has come together.
It’s also been a month since I’ve been back on Instagram and… I have enjoyed being back. But have I enjoyed it enough to warrant spending so much more time there (I can’t help it! It sucks me in!). I think I’m going to take next week off, and will likely make this a regular thing, signing off every month for a week or two.
How was your month?
