October in review

Diary: October in review

Was October actually only 31 days? The beginning of the month was incredibly difficult on a personal level, but fortunately things started to feel a bit easier as the month went on. This is a very short round up of what felt like a loooong month.

Author mentoring sessions

I had several literal dream authors get in touch with me to book in 4 weeks of marketing support. These kick off with a 90 minute call, and then you get 4 weekly check-ins, as well as email access to me when you need a helping hand.

I created my free workshop in September (was it really only a month ago??) specifically to reach the people that I really wanted to work with, and it worked! The sessions were great, and I’ve loved hearing how they’re getting on each week.

I finished my in-house placement with one publisher…

Farewell to Little, Brown, where I’ve been working on and off since the spring. The team there are so lovely, and it’s been nice to start my LB days with a virtual team cuppa. Just 15 minutes at the start of each day to have a chat and catch up. What a nice idea.

… and started another

Last week I had my first day working for Headline, where I will be planning campaigns for some incredible books. I mean – incredible – books. I feel so lucky that this is my job sometimes.

I blogged

I’m back on social media, and I’ve DEFINITELY noticed that I am blogging less as a result. But I did do some writing! This blog post, for one! I also wrote about ways authors can collaborate, and shared my favourite freelancing tools.

I stopped sending out one of my emails

I’ve had a lot going on this month, so decided to stop sending out my weekly content prompts email. I sent it out for nearly a year, and initially had lots of lovely feedback and people using the hashtag. But as my enthusiasm for it waned, I think my readers’ enthusiasm did, too! It felt like something I was doing just because it was on my to-do list, so I took it off.

I’m now one half of The Empowered Author

SUPER excited to have joined Sam Missingham to help her develop the author marketing platform she started up a few years ago. We’re working on it as a partnership, and have so many ideas for the Facebook group and membership. If you’re not already in there, join the Facebook group and sign up to the newsletter.

Income report

A solid month financially. 60% came from my publisher work, 25% from author marketing support, and 8% from an investment I made a few years ago that I cashed in. (That sounds grand, but it was a small investment in Oddbox, back when they only delivered to about 10 postcodes, which has paid off massively!). The remainder was made up of affilliate income, digital sales and a few kind people who bought me a Ko-fi.

Next month and December look like they’ll be much slower, financially, and that is absolutely okay with me. October was full on, and between all the work, and announcing the partnership with Sam, and half term last week, I am ready to have a nap and a few days off!

How was your month?
