Getting marketing support for your book

Getting marketing support for your book

Updated in May 2024

Every so often I update my packages, so I thought I’d update this page on a semi-regular basis to let you know how you can work with me at this time!

How I work with clients

➡️ If you are just starting out in your book publishing journey, and want to join a supportive community of likeminded authors, sign up for the free Empowered Author Facebook group here.

➡️ If you’d like to take a course or get some inspiration via a digital course, The Empowered Author has digital bundles on creating your best ever author newsletter, on using social media to its best advantage and on using Canva to create great book promo graphics.

➡️ If you’d like insights into book marketing and weekly office hours with me, become a paid member of my newsletter community.

➡️ If you want to make massive improvements to your book marketing, get a review of your website, social media channels and Amazon page, and get 6 weeks of personalised tasks and accountability check-ins, sign up for my Author Marketing Roadmap.

➡️ If you’re a publisher, I am always interested in hearing about discrete projects. I no longer take on short to long-term in-house placements, but love to work on individual campaigns, can put together creative social media schedules for your books, write marketing plans, review existing plans and jazz them up, turn a marketing plan into a presentation, and generally act as a helping hand when your team is stretched. If you have a project in mind, drop me an email.

What kind of thing would we talk about?

A few ways I have worked with clients recently include…

  • Brainstorming ways to connect to your ideal reader – whether that’s on social media, through your blog and newsletter, or using other (non-social media) marketing methods.
  • Talking through tactics for specific channels like growing your social channels, creating a compelling reader magnet, building your mailing list, blogging with search engines in mind, pursuing offline networking opportunities, etc.
  • Creating a marketing timeline with you so that you have a clear path to follow.
  • Chatting through your existing ideas to work out which the key ones are to focus on, and how can you break them down into actionable steps.
  • Providing feedback on marketing copy and images, as well as giving feedback on back-cover copy, cover imagery and your Amazon pages.
  • Being on-hand to guide you through any marketing questions that come up during our time together.
  • Auditing your existing activity and suggesting ways that you can improve what you’re doing to reach more readers and sell more books.

Areas I’ll recommend another marketer or specialist for:

  • I don’t actively manage author social media accounts (but can help you come up with brilliant ideas that really connect with your ideal reader).
  • I don’t run online advertising for authors (but can advise you on copy, images and targeting, to help your ads be as good as they can be).
  • I don’t advise on the technical aspects of publishing your book (but if you’ve got questions, ask them in the Facebook group – they are a super helpful bunch!).
