#TheYearinBooks – One for them and one for me
I’ve written before about how much I love the #TheYearinBooks Twitter chat, and when Carie approached me about sharing a book each month – one for grown ups and one for children – I thought it sounded like a really fun idea to join in with. One of my goals for the year is to try to read one non-work book a month, so I’ll share what I’m reading (or about to read) on here! Since the end of maternity leave, my reading lists have pretty much had to be abandoned, as I have to read so much for work, so this will hopefully be a slightly more realistic way to keep on top of it!
One for them: Peep Inside the Castle
This was Theo’s Christmas present from my cousin, and it’s such a cute book. It’s a little look inside a medieval castle and full of little facts about the goings on of the people there. I’m not 100% sure that Theo understands any of it, but there are tons of little flaps and die cuts so that you can see characters from other pages through windows and doors, and it’s just really fun. He loves lifting the flaps and looking through it together.
One for me: A Spool of Blue Thread
I have heard so much good stuff about the new Anne Tyler, and it’s my non-work book of the month. It’s been shortlisted for a bunch of prizes, and I’ve enjoyed her books in the past, so I have very high hopes for this one. So far, I’m about a quarter of the way through it and am absolutely absorbed. It’s amazing how she can make a fairly ordinary story about one family’s relationships and history so completely enthralling.
